Privacy policy

Output Arts aim to always act thoughtfully and with integrity when dealing with other people.

Online

Cookies and tracking

We self-host our own websites. This includes server logging, which keeps small amounts of data every time you visit our sites, including your Internet address and some basic details about your web browser. This data helps us to identify and make sense of any problems. For most people, an Internet address identifies only your Internet provider and a very rough location – such as what country or city you are in. However, appropriately-served search warrants on both us and your Internet provider can link this address back to you personally. This logging data is retained for 7 days.

In addition to server logging, we maintain an analytics system that helps us to understand how people use our websites. Our analytics system records some basic details about your web browser, plus geographic information about which country and region you are browsing from. While this system retains data for an indefinite period, it anonymises your Internet address using an algorithm that produces identifiers which change daily. This means we can see the order in which you view pages on our websites during a particular day, but cannot link this to visits on a different day and this data cannot be linked back to you personally.

Our sites may store temporary information in your web browser ("cookies") to support the operation of the sites, such as if you sign-in to manage your mailing list membership or to avoid annoying you repeatedly with a survey pop-up you've already seen. We do not use cookies to persistently identify you across repeated visits to our websites. We do not approve of, nor use, any global surveillance devices such as Google analytics or Meta tracking cookies. This is why you will not see any advertising or social media "share this post" buttons on our sites, as these companies use such devices to track your movements across the web.

Your email address

If you sign up on our website with your email address, then we will only use this to send you our (infrequent) newsletters. If you get in touch with us directly, then we will retain your email address to communicate with you. If we work together, then we will probably also add you to our mailing list. You may unsubscribe from our newsletters at any time. We will never share your email address with anyone else without your permission.

In person

Things you tell us

We sometimes gather material (such as audio recordings) from people to use in our artworks. Whenever we do this, we will explain how the material you give us will be used and – until the artwork is finished – you are free to get in touch and ask for your contribution to be excluded. We also sometimes ask for feedback. We will store and use feedback to support our understanding of our work. We may also further process it, such as collating numbers of positive or negative responses, or selecting short excerpts. We may share this processed feedback with external partners (like funding bodies) or publicly (such as a quote on our website). However, we will never share any personally-identifiable information without your permission.

Photos and video

We often take photos and video to document our work, some of which may end up being used publicly (such as on our website). At open events or workshops we will make clear when we are doing this and will do our best to respect any requests for privacy made of us at the time. We aim to not take identifiable pictures of minors without the permission of the accompanying adult, but this may not always be practical at larger events where minors are likely to be in the background of any picture taken. At closed events or workshops we will never take pictures without obtaining consent.

If you have any concerns about your privacy, please get in touch.
